Understand the system before the detail

Like a manufacturer technical handbook, the guide starts with performance intent and then moves through components, execution, verification and maintenance.

What this activity is

Painting systems protect and decorate gypsum, plaster, masonry, timber and metal. Performance depends on compatible layers, substrate moisture, surface preparation, film build and drying conditions.

What to expect on a project

Expect most of the effort to happen before the final colour. Cracks, moisture, contamination, unevenness and previous coatings must be addressed; then primer and build coats are selected for the substrate. Final sheen should be reviewed under actual lighting.

The uploaded painting guide follows the practical sequence of protection, filling, smoothing, dust removal, degreasing, priming and successive coats. That sequence is retained here as an original technical workflow rather than copied wording or photography.

Primer is not a universal undercoat. Porous mineral surfaces, previously painted walls, timber and ferrous/non-ferrous metals can require different preparation and primer chemistry.

Uniform appearance depends on film continuity, wet-edge control, consistent roller/brush technique, lighting and batch/colour control. Touch-up can flash differently from the original coat if sheen, absorption or application method differs.
