Understand the system before the detail

Like a manufacturer technical handbook, the guide starts with performance intent and then moves through components, execution, verification and maintenance.

What this activity is

Gypsum systems use metal framing, boards, insulation, joint treatment and accessories to create partitions, wall linings, ceilings and architectural forms. Performance comes from the tested assembly—not the board alone.

What to expect on a project

Expect the correct board / stud system to be selected for the required height, loading, fire rating, acoustic performance and moisture exposure. Services, backing, access panels and heavy fixtures must be coordinated before closure.

The Gyproc handbook organises drywall by design criteria such as height, thermal insulation, fire, acoustics and robustness; that is the correct way to select a system before choosing board colour/type.

Service penetrations, sockets and access panels are weak points in fire/acoustic construction. Coordinate tested details and avoid back-to-back openings where performance would be compromised.

Ceiling grids must not become accidental supports for heavy MEP equipment unless the selected system is specifically designed for that load. Independent supports protect both safety and ceiling alignment.
